Sutherland - July 2002
These snaps were taken while on holiday in Northern Sutherland on the West Coast of Scotland. We went with Chris and Jan and stayed in a cottage in Drumnaguie by the very small village of Polin.
While we were here we visited Handa Island a seabird sanctuary run by the Scottish Wildlife Trust and one of the largest seabird colonies in Europe.
The island's sea cliffs, formed from horizontally stratified Torridonian sandstone, rise vertically from the Atlantic and each summer about 200,000 seabirds gather here to breed.
A great place to see guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes, arctic skuas and puffins.
